Services
I work with small businesses, non-profits and authors on four kinds of work. Every project is different, so I quote once I've seen your site. The free review is the easiest place to start.
Rescues and rebuilds
Most of my projects start with something going wrong. A developer disappeared and took the site with them. A host is about to suspend a hacked account. A theme stopped getting updates, or the site was built for desktops and loses everyone on a phone.
First I get you back online, often within a day. Then I rebuild with fast, plain code or a lean WordPress setup you can update yourself, and move your content across so nothing is lost.
What that can include
- Hack recovery and security hardening
- Restoring lost sites and content, including from the Wayback Machine
- Rebuilds in HTML, CSS and JavaScript or WordPress
- Hosting, CDN and SSL setup
- Moving away from site builders such as Yahoo and Frontpage

Search and conversion
Good rankings start with the words people really type. For one lodging company, the terms their host had optimized for got fewer than 20 searches a month. We rebranded around what people searched for instead, and grew 200% year on year in the first 14 months.
Traffic only matters if it turns into business, so I also watch how visitors use your site, with heatmaps, recordings and short surveys, and change what gets in their way.
What that can include
- Keyword and competitor research
- Technical SEO: speed, structure, structured data and mobile
- Content that answers what customers are searching for
- Heatmaps, visitor recordings and surveys
- WooCommerce stores and checkout improvements

Ongoing help
Some clients I've worked with for more than a decade. Once a site is in good shape I can keep it that way: updates and backups, new pages and products, blog posts, email newsletters and social media.
For DLP, an HR consultancy in the UK, that has grown into their website, an online course, a Skool community connected to WooCommerce through Zapier, and a monthly magazine.
What that can include
- Updates, backups and security monitoring
- Content writing and editing
- Email newsletters and automation
- Online courses and membership communities
- Social media profiles and content plans

Books, magazines and print
I've edited, designed and published books for authors and businesses, produced more than 100 issues of a monthly magazine, and laid out brochures for print and email.
That includes sourcing and licensing images, preparing files for printers, and publishing to Kindle, iBooks and print-on-demand.
What that can include
- Editing and art direction
- Layout and cover design
- Image sourcing and licensing
- Print, Kindle and iBooks editions
- Magazine and brochure production
